Leonhard Kubizek is the grandson of August "Gustl" Kubizek, the only friend of Adolf Hitler during his formative years. As the last person who could approach his grandfather "from the inside," he has processed the shared history of his grandfather and Adolf Hitler. In addition to his professional expertise, he had the great fortune of accessing the most extensive archive, believed destroyed by his family, containing hundreds of unknown documents. Writing this book was also a duty to the Jewish line and the family members killed in resistance (through his mother).

Leonhard Kubizek, August's grandson, is the first and likely the last person to tap into this rich and previously overlooked source. He has meticulously compiled memories, stories, narratives, evidence, letters, and new documents.
